About the Custody Minefield Project In 2006, I started this project with the aim of providing a resource for parents and families irrespective of gender who are caught up in separation disputes which concern the children of the family. My goal is to assist families in being informed as to their legal rights, and assist them in finding the best outcome for the children. The Custody Minefield Book answers 288 questions related to family law, legal proceedings, helping children cope, and handling crisis situations. It can be purchased by clicking on the cover image, although stocks are now running low and I'm avoiding a reprint in favour of writing an up-to-date second edition. This website now receives up to 2,500 unique visits a month and suppliments the information available in my self-help book. I work closely with and am happy to support the main charities in this area. We understand the feelings of helplessness that so many parents and families experience when matters are to be decided in Court. Help is available and I recommend the support provided by the charities whose links are provided at the bottom of this page. ***Latest News on the Children and Adoption Act 2006 and enforcement of Contact Orders, changes to Court Forms and guidance on McKenzie Friends is available on our Legal Updates Page*** Political Lobbying Helping families cope with the legal system is only a part of our work. Legal and legislative reform is required to improve the outcomes for children and reduce the inconsistency that exists within the legal and social work professions. Simply, the high standards which do exist need to be available to every child. Every child matters. Read our response to the Government following their reply to our GRANDPARENTS RIGHTS PETITION. 53 Members of Parliament and 7 charities/organisations support our proposed changes to the law for grandparents. Please make use of the support forums, legal factsheets, the media watch service, links to legislation, campaign news, useful links, surveys and information concerning shared residence. Parents and the extended family have a right to access to information about their legal rights. Our goal is to make that information accessible to all. State institutions must be accountable for the actions of their staff. A child has the right to a full relationship with both parents and their extended family so long as there are no child protection risks. |
